Expectations

 
  • Half Notes and Premiere ensembles are to be seated according to audition results
  • In order to participate in a performance the musician(s) must attend the rehearsal prior to the performance unless there are extenuating circumstances, approved by the director.
  • Setup and dismantle tables, stands, and chairs before and after rehearsal
  • Setup and dismantle as needed for a performance
  • Though select pieces are listed, please bring ALL your music to the performance, in the event that a program adjustment is made
  • Bring all issued music to rehearsal and performances—musicians are encouraged to make extra copies of music for the sole purpose of practice in the event that he/she misplaces the music—music given to you is the property of Urban Strings
  • If the musician does not attend the dress rehearsal prior to the performance date, he/she will not be able to perform—musician should attend the performance to support and encourage the rest of the ensemble.
  • Maintain a minimum academic grade point average of 2.0 at their school to remain active in Urban Strings—a student’s academic reports may be requested at any time
  • Acknowledge and understand that the Directors and Advisory Committee reserve the right to administer appropriate corrective action (warning, parent conference, inactive status, probation, suspension, expulsion, etc.) to a musician for any infraction on the above requirements - Parent/Guardian will be notified
  • If your child is unable to participate, we need to know ASAP.

  • Community, engagement, involvement, and enrichment activities are encouraged as apart of our musical experience.

  • Enjoy playing string music of different genres and composers in a non-threatening environment.
  • Musicians should practice 60 minutes a day. An option or suggestion would be one full interrupted hour of practice, two thirty-minute intervals of practice or four fifteen minute intervals of practice throughout the day.

  • We are asking that you participate in three group lesson sessions a month. The first, second, and third Saturday (subject to change). The first, second, and third Saturday of each month, except July and August. 

Group Lesson Fees

  • Quarter and Half Notes: 1 hour for three Saturdays. Total Monthly Fee: $30
  • Urban Strings Premiere: 2 hours for three Saturdays. Total Monthly Fee: $45
  • One Musician: Full Fee
  • More than one musician per family: Two or more musicians in the family will be half the fee of their category
  • Fee Payments are due by the third Saturday of each month during Parent Meeting

Group Lessons Schedules

  • 1st Saturday of each month: Sectionals (Concentrated on individual sections with coaches)
  • 2nd Saturday of each month: Parents are encouraged to observe group lesson with the understanding that there should be no conversation or cell phone activity within the rehearsal room. You are encouraged to excuse yourself if you need to have conversations or need to use or answer your cell phone.
  • 3rd Saturday of each month: Full orchestra rehearsal and Parent Meeting.
